Very lovely!
Have a great day Gill.
Ah, yes, I have two spirea like these and agree that their time bloom time is way too short. They truly are gorgeous when they are in blossom though. Your hedge is to die for. :)
Your bridal wreath is gorgeous - ours has never looked like that! In fact, I haven't seen it recently . . .
What a beautiful, Eden! Too bad it lasts so little.
Have a good week, dear!
Wow, that's beautiful! As for the haircut, I'm not really sure...after it's done flowering I'd say, but the best place to find out would be at a local greenhouse!
What a gorgeous hedge, if only for a short time. Then it will go back to being a useful hedge. Have a blessed Sunday!
What a gorgeous hedge this is. I photographed something similar last week...maybe it is the same? I didn't know its name but, I sure thought it was beautiful.
the veg patch is open to the elements!!
do u have rabbit problems?
Glad you liked and could use the quote Gill! I really enjoyed your garden photos yesterday!! But I had no idea that spirea could grow that high. However I've never been able to stay where it was planted to see for myself. Where I live now I have planted it again, but it's pink. I've read that as flowering declines, you can prune by as much as 30%. It stimulates newer, more productive growth from the base of the plant. I hope you continue to enjoy your weekend!!
We have one shrub of this near our well hosue. Lovely!
Thanks for identifying this one Gill. I have a small one of these I inherited in my back yard and didn't know what it was called. :)
Yours is beautiful in bloom!
Love your spirea hedge, Gill! Beautiful photos.
Spireas are so lovely in bloom and can be trimmed or chopped back hard almost any time. After flowering is probably best as they will grow out again and the bush will soon stop looking so newly shaven. I would steer clear of pruning in late autumn it your winters are harsh.
Adore your snowball header!
I have one bush... I trim it in the fall to a nice round shape and cut off all the uneven bits and it seems to survive.... somehow!
Lovely flowers Gill and I see you have a beautiful sky up there.
Trim spring-flowering shrubs after the blooms have faded away. Here's a good guide: http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/dg0628.html
I must recommend to you Rodale Press' Organic Gardening Encyclopedia. They update it every few years and an old copy will be as handy as a new. My copy is from the 70's and we refer to it CONSTANTLY. It would be an invaluable resource to you on the homestead! Every thing you can want to know is in there.
Good article. I certainly appreciate this website.
Stick with it!
